Help for NZ businesses
1 February 2010
With RWC 2011 projected to provide over $500 million in additional Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to our economy, there’ll be plenty of opportunities for New Zealand businesses. And if businesses act now and take the right approach, it can be more than a one-off boost.
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise has developed a guide to the opportunities around Rugby World Cup. In addition to boosting demand for local suppliers, the tournament will provide a focus for building relationships with international partners.
NZTE is also running a website to make procurement opportunities related to RWC 2011 easily accessible to New Zealand businesses, which will list business opportunities around event supply and infrastructure. Businesses interested in tendering can register their details, and regional and national partners involved in delivering the tournament (and supporting activity) can load tenders on the site.
Information about the opportunities and the tender site can be found at New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.
Guidelines have also been developed to help New Zealand businesses get to grips with the Major Events Management Act and how it will impact what they can do around Rugby World Cup 2011 (RWC 2011).
Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand - A Guide to the Major Events Management Act 2007 is a joint project between Rugby World Cup Limited - a subsidiary of the International Rugby Board which owns the event - and New Zealand’s Ministry of Economic Development.
It provides general guidance on how the Major Events Management Act (MEMA) will work to both ensure the smooth running of RWC 2011 and protect it from commercial exploitation. It also includes information on protected RWC emblems and words.
