Investing in 2011
The Government was a key partner in New Zealand’s bid to host Rugby World Cup 2011. Our focus is now on staging a spectacular REAL New Zealand Festival and ensuring New Zealand is ready to benefit from hosting an event of this scale and significance.
RWC 2011 is expected to contribute more than $1 billion to our economy, with almost half of that going into Auckland. And with a global audience of four billion or so, the event will put New Zealand in the international spotlight like never before.
Pulling together to make it happen
The Government has established strong partnerships with the New Zealand Rugby Union and other groups to ensure New Zealand realises the full potential of hosting Rugby World Cup 2011. Find out more.
Stadium upgrades and other projects
The New Zealand Government is investing in assets and infrastructure, including major stadium upgrades in Auckland and Dunedin and securing public access to Auckland’s Queens Wharf.
NZ 2011 Government Ambassadors
