Rugby World Cup 2011 Education Programme
The Rugby World Cup 2011 Education Programme uses the Tournament to enhance learning and inspire students – and it’s just one of the many ways schools can get involved.
The New Zealand Government, through NZ 2011, Rugby New Zealand 2011 and NZRU, is providing every primary and intermediate school student in the country with an Activity Book to enhance learning around the Tournament.
RWC 2011 Activity Book
The RWC 2011 Education Programme will provide every primary and intermediate school in New Zealand with a range of educational resources. Developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the programme will allow teachers and students to learn more about the Tournament, the sport of rugby and some of the other 19 visiting nations.
A RWC 2011 Activity Book will be provided free of charge and sent to schools towards the end of Term Two, 2011. There are three activity books available for Years 1-3, Years 4-6 and Years 7-8, which are all aligned to the national curriculum and endorsed by the Ministry of Education.

Online Resources
There are two complimentary online education units available to teachers:
- Ruggerland: Created by the New Zealand Rugby Union, this unit provides Rugby-themed units tied to New Zealand curriculum areas in English, Mathematics, Te Reo Māori, Social Science and Health & Physical Education. The website contains a wealth of printable teacher resources that can be utilised for study projects, classroom activity and to support RWC 2011 activity. Go to www.ruggerland.co.nz.
- KidZone: Created by Tournament Organisers Rugby New Zealand 2011, this unit provides learning activities which encourage students to “adopt a second team” to learn about one of the 20 countries participating in RWC 2011. The unit is provided in three levels for Years 1-3, Years 4-6 and Years 7-8 with accompanying Teacher’s notes and a series of video resources to equip teachers with all the tools they will need to support learning around RWC 2011. Go to www.rugbyworldcup.com/kidzone
The RWC Education Programme is completely voluntary and by using this range of resources, teachers can plan their RWC 2011 lessons to best meet the learning needs of their students.
There are also lots of other ways for schools to celebrate RWC 2011 and become part of the Tournament festivities, including coming down to the RWC 2011 Roadshow in July or checking out the fun and creative ideas in our Get Involved School Toolkit.
Check out (and download) the Rugby World Cup 2011 Education Programme teacher’s flyer (eZine) and you can access Teacher’s notes to accompany the programme here from July.
