Len Lye Exhibition: All Souls Carnival
Add to my REAL NZ Festival trip planner Added to your REAL NZ Festival trip plannerAn experimental filmmaker, poet, painter, kinetic sculptor, eccentric and ebullient personality, Len Lye (1901 - 1980) is one of New Zealand's most internationally recognised modern artists.
Working also in London and New York, Lye was an intensely creative figure whose vibrant "direct" films were made without a camera, by drawing, painting and scratching the film itself.
Lye's thunderous motorised stainless steel sculptures shake, spin and wobble to create mesmerising forms in motion.
The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, home to much of Lye's work, offers a stunning exhibition of this highly innovative and influential artist.
The exhibition will feature many kinetic works, include the following audience favourites:
• Trilogy
• Blade
• Universe
• Fountain
Admission to the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery is free, although visitor donations (koha) enable the Gallery to ensure the ongoing provision of dynamic programmes.
