West Coast Whitebait Challenge
Add to my REAL NZ Festival trip planner Added to your REAL NZ Festival trip plannerThe West Coast Whitebait Menu Challenge is your chance to really indulge your taste buds as you make your way along the West Coast of the South Island during the REAL New Zealand Festival and Rugby World Cup 2011.
New Zealand whitebait is a delicacy (make sure you try the famous New Zealand whitebait pattie), so with the season coinciding with Rugby World Cup 2011 and a range of events and activities on offer up and down the Coast, a visit to this beautiful region has to be high on your list!
The many fine restaurants and eateries up and down the Coast will be showing off their best whitebait recipes and competing to see who will be the “Best in the West” when it comes to cooking this fantastic West Coast delicacy.
The West Coast Whitebait Menu Challenge coincides with the annual whitebait season when many Kiwis head to the Coast to enjoy the spring weather in September and October and to try their hand at catching the elusive “white gold”.
Come and see what all the fuss is about and enjoy the stunning scenery, a great range of activities and taste some of the best whitebait on the planet.
Local whitebait menu challenges will be held in Haast, Fox Glacier, Hokitika, Greymouth, Reefton and Westport. The grand final will be held at Shantytown, near Greymouth, on the evening of Friday 28 October.
Look out for the West Coast Whitebait Festival Guide for all the details of times and places to enjoy the festival activities.
