The Government was a key partner in New Zealand’s bid to host Rugby World Cup 2011. Our focus is now on staging a spectacular ‘festival of Rugby’ and ensuring New Zealand is ready to benefit from hosting an event of this scale and significance.
RWC 2011 is expected to contribute more than $500 million to our economy, with almost half of that going into Auckland. And with a global audience of 4 billion or so, the event will put New Zealand in the international spotlight like never before.
Investing in success
The Government’s investment in the assets and infrastructure needed to host Rugby World Cup 2011 includes major stadium upgrades and securing public access to Auckland’s Queens Wharf. Making it happen
