Stadium Christchurch

The Government has contributed $15 million to the $60 million upgrade of Stadium Christchurch for the Rugby World Cup in 2011.

Prime Minister John Key says RWC 2011 will be a massive event for New Zealand and will attract many thousands of visitors, so venues for games must be up to scratch.

The three old eastern stands have come to the end of their structural life and are being replaced. A new three-level East Stand is being built on the Wilsons Road frontage, bringing the permanent capacity of Stadium Christchurch up to 41,000 people.
