Eden Park
The Government’s investment of $190 million in redeveloping Eden Park was a pivotal part of New Zealand’s bid to host the Rugby World Cup
Eden Park will host the opening match between the All Blacks and Tonga on 9 September 2011, and the World Cup final on 23 October 2011. It will also be the venue of both semi-finals, the bronze final (third and fourth play-off) and five pool matches.
The Government has invested $190 million in redeveloping Eden Park into a world class venue. New Zealand’s bid to host the 2011 Rugby World Cup relied heavily on a commitment to upgrade the home of Auckland rugby.
The redevelopment – due for completion in October 2010 – will see Eden Park’s capacity increased to 60,000, making it a valuable piece of the country’s events infrastructure, and an attractive venue for future major events.
